Highlands Lakeside Theatre (HLT) has auditions scheduled for both “Matilda” and “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder.”
Auditions for four characters from “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder,” Montague “Monty” Navarro, The D’Ysquith Family, Sibella Hallward, and Phoebe D’Ysquith will be held February 22-23, 6-9 pm. Callbacks, if needed, will be February 25, 6-9 pm. For the first audition on February 22, candidates are instructed to prepare a song similar in style to the music in the show. Bring digital background tracks with you to auditions. Acting pieces will be chosen from selections in the script. On February 23, acting and singing selections will be chosen from the show. All characters should be strong singers who can read music, sing parts and play multiple roles.
Montague Navarro, male, looks age 20-30. He is handsome, clever, and endearing. After discovering he is in line to become an Earl he intends to kill off the family that stands in the way. The D’Ysquith Family is a male of no particular age. Must be a strong actor to play nine roles, both male and female. Sibella Hallward, female, looks 20-30 years old. She is the girl Monty loves. Phoebe D’Ysquith is Monty’s 20-30-year-old female cousin.

Auditions for “Matilda,” all characters, will be at 6:00 pm March 1st, 2nd, 3rd, with the possibility of callbacks on the 4th and 5th. A video vocal audition will need to be submitted prior to February 26, 2021. Attach vocal submissions to the completed audition form at forms.gle/2z8UBpbkf9S16sVM9.
Matilda Wormwood is female, age 8 to 14 (appearing as younger), is an imaginative girl who is clever and wise far beyond her years. She has a thirst for learning that cannot be quenched. The vocal range is top D5 to bottom A3. Submit "When I Grow Up". Please sing at a comfortable octave range. Record from the beginning to 1:10. Must be a good listener, take direction, and a hard worker.
Miss Honey, female, is Matilda's kindhearted teacher. She is tired of living in fear under Miss Trunchbull, and is 25 to 40 years old, with a vocal range of D5 – F3. Miss Honey will need to sing "My House" from the beginning to 1:05.
Agatha Trunchbull, 35 to 55, may be played by any gender. The tyrannical headmistress at Matilda's school who despises children has a vocal range of top G4 to bottom A2. Miss Trunchbull should submit "The Hammer" from the beginning to 1:15.
Mr. Wormwood is Matilda's uncaring father. A slimy, greedy used-car salesman, portrayed by a male age 35-45 with a vocal range of top A4 to bottom D3. He is married to Mrs. Wormwood, Matilda's self-absorbed, negligent mother and an amateur ballroom dancer. A female age 35 -45, vocal range F5 – A3, she will sing "Loud" from 0:56-1:50. Michael Wormwood is Matilda’s not very bright, favored by her parents, older brother, played by a male age 10 -15 years old.
Bruce and Lavender are Matilda’s classmates. Bruce is male, age 8-14 (appearing younger) top vocal range E5 to bottom C4. He is subject to extreme punishment by Miss Turnbull. Lavender is female, age 8-14 (appearing younger.) Must sing “When I Grow Up.”
Mrs. Phelps is a nice female librarian age 25-45. Rudolpho is Mrs. Wormwood’s male ballroom dance partner, with a vocal range of A4 to D3. The Doctor/Escapeologist/Sergei the Doctor when Matilda is born and a character in Matilda’s story who comes to life. Male, vocal range A4 to C3 will need to sing "Miracle" from 4:45-5:45 (vocal track) and 0:20-1:20. Vocals start at 0:20.
Amanda, Nigel, Eric, Alice, Hortensia, Tommy are classmates, age 8-14 (appearing younger.) There are four female ensemble members, ages 14 to adult who play different roles including parents, older kids, the acrobat, etc. Must be able to sing and dance well. There are four male ensemble members, ages 14 to adult, who play different roles including parents, older kids, henchmen, the cook, etc. Must be able to sing and dance well. Children and Ensemble parts need to sing "When I Grow Up".
In addition, anyone auditioning for Matilda and Miss Trunchbull will need to memorize an acting piece prior to auditions.
